As could be predicted, it rained again while we were there. We got the lawn mowed at both places but did not get to the trimming. We hauled three loads of rocks to the Maris residence and finished some landscaping on the west and north side. An executive decison was made to move the freezer next to the cold room door afer we defrosted it. Some minor electrical modifications had to be made. We dug about a third of a row of red potatoes and left the digger in the field. There were a lot of beans so we canned 7 quarts of dilly beans, a couple of quarts were left on the stove. There will probably be enough beans next week to can some more. The sweat corn is also ready even though the racoons or some animal got to a lot of it. An inventory of the items needed for the Barn Again was left on the table. The last thing we (Marilyn) did before leaving Monday was to clean and mop the floors in the house. We hope to be back for Labor Day weekend.

August 13th, 2011 Weekend
It was a typical weekend at the farm, rain, work, and eat. Norb, Barb and I spent the weekend weeding and hilling potatoes, mowing lawn and trimming. It rained really hard on Saturday while Barb and I were weeding, but we finished up on Sunday and ran the tiller through the rows. The berries are done, the corn is just coming in, beans are plentiful as are the cucumbers, onions and beats. The honeycrisp apples finally appeared this year. The branches on one are so heavy I had to put a stake in the ground and tied it up. I discovered on Saturday night that a ground fault blew in the barn and the refrigerator was out so I had to through a bunch of frozen things out. I left the wedding and birthday cake. We plan on returning on the 20th for another couple of days up there.
