 New Potatoes

Wednesday, July 14, 2021

A couple of updates.  Potatoes look great as does the garden.  Finished trim on the windows with 125 year old pine from the old front yard trees.

Forrest made his first visit to the farm.  Unlike his Papou he enjoys sauerkraut.  The window project is going well.  Most of the jams and stools are in and Barb is making progress on the trim boards.  Marilyn has been in charge of meal planning, cooking, cleaning and painting.  She (with Barbs help) painted the living room and the hall way with Mousy Tint paint.  Lou has been working grinding off old paint on the house and painting.  Norb should be almost done with the outhouse for the composting toilet.  There has been enough rain so the garden and potato patch looks great.  Hope is that most of the projects will be done soon and we will have time for some recreational activities - although there has been some time all

otted for card playing.

Home improvements continue at the farm.  Barb and Dave Klun did most of the day installing the new bay window in the house in 90 degree heat.  The old windows are gone thanks to Dave who hauled them to St. Paul to a disposal center.  Norb is mostly finished with the structure for installing a composting toilet that he bought near Milwaukee that Mariann and Lou hauled to the farm.  Barb has fabricated new stools for all the windows and will make all of the trim.  Dennis is making all new jams.  The wood from the 125 year old pine trees that were in the front yard are being used for the stools, jams and trim.  We decided that the old trim that Dee spent a lot of time removing would not work, but thanks for your effort.

We had a nice rain that help with the garden and potato patch but it is still really dry.  By the looks of radar there may have been some rain in the area today.  We made and executive decision to remove the blue couch to make more room in the living area.  With the bay window out it was easy to remove.  A local resident (Mabie) picked it up for their grandson who will be attending college in Eau Claire this fall.

 Spring activities at the farm.

The window installation went well.  All that is left to install is the large picture window.  The garden is in as are the potatoes.  The is also a composting toilet being install in a new outhouse behind the chicken house.  The crew included:  Barb, Norb, Dennis, Marilyn, Brian, Lou and Mariann and Dave Klun the contractor.  Dee W. was not present for the installation but took out all of the trim on the inside windows the week prior.  Pauline helped Marilyn clean the barn and the bunkhouse.  Pictures tell the story.
